Sunday Outside

James and Mattie went to yet another different playground today (although they'd been to this one before -- it's near our house, but the main play structure is made for slightly older kids, so it's not usually our first choice). James once again mastered a climbing structure, this time one that looked like a slide but had footholds for climbing up. We also took them for a short walk down one of the trails, but it was getting toward lunchtime by then, so they didn't get too much of the woods. They did enjoy finding sticks to play with, though!

In the evening, they had a visit from their friend N and his twin baby brother and sister. The boys were very excited to see the babies, and the babies were quite well-behaved and slept most of the time they were here. :) We cooked out, and James enjoyed the baked beans, and Mattie liked the hot dogs (torn into little pieces for him). The adults had burgers made from fresh South Dakota beef that Mike brought home!

Alas, clever James has figured out how to work the latch on the deck gate. He is such an explorer -- he just wants to climb down the rocks and go trek around the yard, but of course we don't trust him to do that on his own yet. So we had to block off the gate with a chair (which meant that he just climbed up the chair and kept trying -- I see a new lock in our future!)
