Our Old Nemesis

James had his two-year check-up at the pediatrician today, which turned out to be good timing. (He ate two jars of baby food at breakfast this morning, which is a lot for him, but then unfortunately it came back up. Grrr.)

We described what was going on with his weight and recent throwing up, and our doc thinks that it's probably reflux again. She also thinks that getting more iron may help with the weight gain. So, she prescribed prevacid for him and recommended that we restart giving vitamins with iron. Keep your fingers crossed that those do the trick!

Everything else looked good. His ear infection had cleared up and she didn't have any concerns about his development. Yay, James! She set a target weight for his 30 month appointment of 23-24 lbs (to which my unspoken response was, "Good luck with that, lady", but which Mike thinks is not unreasonable). It would be awesome if he could get there.

Even though he didn't have to have any shots, he screamed bloody murder as soon as we tried to take his clothes off to be weighed. They did the weight with his clothes on, which isn't ideal. He also pitched a fit every time the doctor wanted to look at him. Poor kid -- it wouldn't have been a bad visit for him except for his angst!

Here's the crazy thing -- we weighed him at home after his bath, and lo and behold -- 20 lbs. Wow! Even with all the drama of the last few days, he put on those ounces we've been waiting for. We're hoping he holds steady or gains in a couple of days when we check again.
