Orientation

We had parent orientation for the preschool last night. The director of the preschool seems fantastic; she has the most wonderful North Carolina accent and she's one of those old South women of impeccable manners and force of nature personality.

The boys' teachers seem good too, although I don't feel like I have quite as much of a sense of what they'll be like. They're both experienced and down to earth and at least from what they said, they seem to really enjoy and understand two-year-olds. We will have plenty of chance to get to know them, though, since this is a "parent-involved" preschool, and because we have two kids in the class, we're "parent of the day" in the classroom like a million times during the year. (Okay, I exaggerate, but it's once or twice every month, which seemed like a lot.) Parent of the day means being in charge of bringing the snack and hanging out in the classroom playing with the kids and helping the teachers for an hour and a half.

Then today we went for a fifteen-minute meeting with the teachers and the boys. Matthew and James were especially excited that the church had a water fountain, but they also made themselves right at home playing with the toys in the classroom. I wish we had gotten a slightly longer meeting so that we could have had a little more chance to discuss the hearing stuff, but at least we were able to talk about the basics with the teacher. (We had talked to the director over the summer and we were supposed to get the last slot of the day so that we could have extra time, but apparently that request fell through the cracks.) We figure we can talk more about it with them on or after our first "parent of the day" gig, which is only two weeks from now.

This evening we made our now-usual gym trip. We ran into people we'd seen at the gym before on two separate occasions this week, but tonight we had the place to ourselves! (One little girl and her mom and grandma were there when we first arrived, but then left shortly after that.) The staff person noticed James hanging on the bar, and commented on how strong he was. He thought James would do well in a class, and gave us coupons for a free trial class for the boys. We'll probably check it out if we can find a time that works.

[The second-to-last picture is Matthew jumping in the air with excitement about playing catch with Daddy!]

10 kids to 2 adults is a nice ratio.
