Buddha Baby

Matt is a little squirmy bear; he's always kicking his feet and wiggling around. He was giving them a hard time last night because he likes to pull his CPAP (breathing mask) out. (The yellow bag in this picture is to weight down the tubes so he can't do that and so it doesn't slip out accidentally.) So, don't let this pose fool you -- he's not very Zen!

Matthew had his second echocardiogram this morning, and although the heart duct is smaller, it hasn't closed completely. So he'll have another three day course of baby ibuprofen, and hopefully that will do the trick. (As we mentioned before, this isn't a serious issue, but they like to see the duct closed because having it open can make their breathing more difficult.)

I got to hold him again today, which was great (especially because he didn't have any apneas this time!)

We just called in to check, and James continues to be stable, which is good.

Charlotte was a big fan of removing her IV line when she was in the NICU. The neonatal NPs were rather impressed with her feistiness and had to keep doing all sorts of creative things with tape to keep her from pulling it out. This willfulness turned out to be a persistent character trait, so look out - Matt may be trying to tell you something about his personality. :) We're very happy that James is hanging tough and it sounds like you are too.
