Big Buddha

Tochoji Temple is home to Japan's largest wooden Buddha. (He's on the second floor, over the parking garage, no photos allowed.)

Next to the Buddha, there are doors.  If you go through, there's a hallway with pictures of demons on the walls.  Then you go through another section which is completely, unsettlingly dark.  Then you come out to a small gold picture of Buddha that is illuminated (out of the darkness and into the light!), and then you re-emerge into the room with the giant Buddha.  A mini spiritual experience!

The large, rounded stones sitting on top of each other are old graves. I really liked them -- the hugeness and solidness of them seemed to say, "see how important I was!"

I do not know why some of the statues have towels over them.
