Mercurial

We got to see the other side of two-and-a-half today: Mattie would say "no" one minute and then "yes" then next. ("No playground!" "Okay, you can stay here with Mommy while James and Daddy go." "Go to the playground!" And the same for whether he wanted his white bear, whether he wanted lunch, etc., etc.  And my personal favorite instance of general contrariness: Me: "Time for a new diaper."  Mattie: "I want saggy baggy diaper!") Fortunately, most of the time I knew he would change his mind as soon as I agreed that he didn't have to do whatever it was he was saying no to.

We've also been hearing a lot of "why?"  from Mattie. (Interspersed with the occasional amusing, "Why not?")

And in another typical toddler moment, the other day at dinner, Matthew took some of James's Cheerios and ate them. This shouldn't have been a big deal since there were plenty more Cheerios, but James kept pointing at his brother's mouth and insisting, "I want that one!!" (Sorry, kiddo!)

Mostly, though, they've been very cute -- especially tonight when they were bouncing on the couch and James went over to give his brother a hug. :)

The boys love fire hydrants!
