Matthew the Writer

Mattie has been excited about making "books" and cards the last couple days.

This top picture (not a great one of him) is some of the first letters he's written on his own.  He wanted to write "the end", so he had me help him spell "the."  Not too bad for an early try!

His "books" are illustrated folded pieces of paper, and the stories go something like this:  "One upon a time there was a brown line.  The brown line met a squiggle.  The end."  (The one tonight had them all meeting "this thing" which "wanted to eat the squiggle and the line and everyone.")  It's so cute.

Mattie also wanted to make a card for James last night. He had Mike help him write it (Mike guided his hand), but he told Mike just what he wanted to say.  On the outside it said, "I love James and Lowly" (and later added "and Scooby" -- James often decides that he's Lowly or Scooby), and on the inside it says, "Someday waterslide", because he wanted James to know they'd go to a waterslide someday.  (They happened to see an ad for one on the computer.)  Such a sweet brother!  (The waterslide picture, as you might guess, was drawn by Daddy, but other decorations were by Matthew.)
