Back in Time

On our last morning in Portsmouth, we went to the Strawbery Bankes museum -- although museum is not quite the right word, because it has a dozen or so buildings that represent different points in Portsmouth's history. They're still continuing to renovate some of the buildings, but for each one, they have it set up to represent a particular time point (including one building where half of it is furnished from the 1950s and half from the 1800s!)  They also have people (some of them in period costumes) there to talk about the houses and exhibits. The kids' favorite one had letters from and about the owner of the house, and you had to use them to figure out what modern disease she had (spoiler alert, it was called dropsy back then and congestive heart failure today).  My favorite was the store set up with products from the 1940s (WWII era) -- and of course, some of the products are still ones we have around today!
