Familiar and New

Our hotel is just about 10-15 minutes walk from Bugis Junction, a shopping area that we went to last time we were here. The boys and I headed out there for lunch because they have a nice selection of food (including pasta that the boys liked last time).  But on the way we got to see the Sultan Mosque, which we hadn't seen before -- very beautiful!  (We just saw the outside -- it was closed for the holiday, and we probably wouldn't have gone in anyhow since we were hungry.)

We had an extended lunch of pasta and kebobs.  (Extended because the sauce on James's pasta was too spicy, so we got him another one with just olive oil; then Matthew liked my kebob so much that he got one too after he was done with his pasta! But that's okay because we weren't in a hurry.) The "meatballs" served with the pasta were very strange -- they had meat on the outside that was kind of like the meat you might find in a wonton, and then bright orange nacho-type cheese on the inside.  The boys did not approve. :)

On the way back we walked through Haji Lane and Arab street, both sort of funky shopping areas.  Fun to see!

For dinner we had Indian food at a hawker-type place on the corner. Mike and I thought it was delicious, but the boys were falling asleep and didn't eat a bite. Of course, poor Matthew got a second wind when we got home and didn't fall asleep for real for hours.
