Boomerangs Lost and Found

So, hey, do you think the kid with the too-big Bondi Beach sweatshirt and the boomerang might be a tourist?  :)

Mike got the boys boomerangs in Cairns, and Matthew had been eager to try his out.  We thought the lawns in front of the botanical gardens might be a good place.  It went pretty well at first.

But then, Mike was throwing James's boomerang, and the wind caught it and wedged it up in the tree.  A little girl who had been watching came running up with a stick, and said, "Here!  Use this!"

A few minutes later I came back and said to Mike, "Where's the stick?"  He said, "Up in the tree. Along with another stick."  So then he got a rock...which got stuck in the tree.  It was kind of hilarious.  (To me. Not to Mike.)

We were about to give up, but James found a smaller rock up in the fig tree, and he wanted to give it a try.  And lo and behold, after three or four throws, Mike actually got the boomerang down!  Yippee -- the day was saved!

(Unfortunately the larger rock was still wedged up there, right in a little V-shaped cradle of branches.  We just hoped that it was solidly stuck enough not to fall down on anyone!  It certainly wasn't moving even with the breezes coming through.)
