Chianciano Terme

On Wednesday, we went to the market in Chianciano Terme. It was partially a farmer's market, and partially just a "stuff" market (household goods, purses, shoes, etc. -- perhaps the most memorable stand included underwear with a padded booty, for people who are worried that their rear end isn't shapely enough). We had lunch there -- a standing-up meal of cheese and porchetta sandwiches. (Three different stands were selling them, so we did an informal taste comparison.) Yum!

It was a gorgeous day.  Afterwards, we walked around the town.  (Yes, another hill town with very steep streets and amazing views of the countryside!)

Then a group of us headed back to the villa (Craig's brother was catching a train that evening and needed to pack).  The others ended up going to the spa with thermal springs, then wine-tasting, and then to a farm where they got to hold baby sheep.  (We missed out on an eventful afternoon!  But no regrets; it was nice to have a relaxing afternoon at the villa.)

Incidentally, later in the trip, we stopped into a store in Sarteano.  The owner turned out to be the cheese guy in the third picture, and he recognized us!  Small world in Tuscany!
