...and Its Discontents

Perhaps the reports of Mattie's emerging social graces were a bit premature -- this morning he was trying to get a toy away from James, and when James wouldn't let it go, Mattie bit his hand. Hard. Not enough to break the skin, fortunately, but he definitely left a mark. Mama was not amused. James cried because it hurt, and I yelled at Matthew which made him cry (but they both got over it relatively quickly.)

Mattie has also started using the word "no" ("noooooo") much more frequently over the past couple days, usually when we ask if he wants to do something. I don't think that's going to be the most fun stage. :)

But on the bright side, later in the day, Mattie did go and "give a hug" to James when I asked him to (although at this point Mattie's idea of giving a hug is to go up next to someone and get down and hug the floor -- I think this is leftover from hugging the dog that way. But the idea was there.) They have also been having a great time playing splashing games together in the bath.

Both boys like giving treats to Stanley, as you can see from the pictures.

And Mattie had another successful potty experience today. :)

James is saying more new words: go ("doh"), star ("tar"), eye, nose ("no"), baby, and wall. He signed cracker the other day and maybe said it, too, but I didn't hear it for sure. He also was doing the signs for "go" and "down" (though not together). Go, James!

All these posts about the potty, and one might even begin to think that you're becoming a Freudian.
