MerLion Sighting
I spent yesterday afternoon with my former student Joe and his wife and new(ish) baby. It was wonderful to see them again! We met up down in the Harbourfront area, and had a delicious meal at a Chinese restaurant (known for their soup dumplings). Then we walked down the Sentosa boardwalk, though we didn't go all the way to the island. (Sentosa is more or less the Disneyland of Singapore -- theme parks and other big attractions. You can even get there by cable car!)
Sentosa has one of the big statues of Singapore's mascot, the Merlion. (There was a Merlion restaurant in Chapel Hill, and we always thought it was Mer-lee-on. But no, it's like a mermaid-lion, a lion with a fish's tail.) So, I can check seeing the Merlion off of my Singapore to do list! (Not only did we see the real Merlion, the Toys-R-Us also had a huge Lego Merlion. Bonus!)
