We had a small "birthday party" for Daniel this evening. (This was originally going to be the family birthday party, but Uncle Isaac and Aunt Erin couldn't make it.) But we were delighted to have Mary Beth and Gary visit, and we had "happy cake", which was the important thing from Daniel's perspective! (Also the singing. Daniel likes the singing.)
However, the only cakes they had at Whole Foods all had variations of pink icing on them. We picked the least-pink of the options, and asked them explicitly (twice) to do the writing in blue ("or some other boy color"). They asked for the spelling of Daniel, so we gave it to them (twice). Annnnd then they came out with it in pink writing, asking, "Is it Danielle?" (Um, no.) Ah well, he's two, he doesn't care!
Grandma had a busy day today, playing with the boys, feeding Matthew his first cantelope, and getting Daniel a version of the lion toy that the twins have -- he spent a lot of time playing with theirs, and didn't like it at all when Mattie or James tried to join in! (Usually Daniel is very good about sharing.)
