Josephine Falls

The first official stop on our rainforest tour was Josephine Falls. If the weather had been better, it might have been possible to go swimming (the rocks make a natural rock slide), but the current was way too strong on the day we were there due to a few rainy days (much to Matthew's disappointment). Similarly, the rocks might have been more fun to climb around on if they hadn't been super-slippery (in fact, James had a near miss on one of them). It was kind of a cool place, but I think it would have been more enjoyable if we'd had a bit more sun.

Our guide also told us about some of the rainforest plants.  Some are useful (like the buttress roots that can give shelter), but more of them are out to get you.  For example, there's the "wait a while" vine that if you rub it one way, it embeds thorns in your skin, and you have to "wait a while" as you pull them out (but if you rub it the other way, it's okay). Apparently this vine is the reason you never run in a rainforest.  There's also another tree whose Aboriginal name translates to the "ouchie tree."  The leaves of the tree cause a painful stinging that can take months to go away.  Yikes!
