Fort Canning

We wanted to visit Fort Canning Park because it was the setting for one of the Sherlock Sam kids' mystery books we read last year, so we went on Saturday afternoon.  (The boys made a new friend at breakfast and spent some of the morning playing with him -- they had bonded over a common love of Minecraft!)  It turns out to be a really neat park.  There are some historical sites -- the Battlebox is the underground bunker where the leaders had to make the decision to surrender to the Japanese in WWII, and there are some cannons around as well -- and also a sculpture garden and a lot of beautiful nature.  It was the site of Singapore's first botanic garden.

We also got to walk through the Sally Port (which played a big role in the kids' book, even though in real life the one we were in was just a short tunnel from the bottom of the hill to the top!)
