In Which We Discover the Glory of the Ride Wristband
We went to the Clarence Fourth of July Fair yesterday, which was great. We got the unlimited ride bracelets for the boys, which turned out to be a wise decision -- the fair wasn't very crowded, so the boys got to ride their favorite rides over and over again. They did the fun slide and funhouse multiple times in a row, and the bouncy slide, too.
The boys, especially Matthew, also wanted to try some of the more grown-up rides. They did one that looked like an octopus with cars that both spin and go up and down -- Matthew liked it, but James yelled, "stop the ride!" and they let him off. :) (He later went on it again with Matthew and it was fine, but then tried it again by himself and had to stop.) The guys running the rides were super-nice about it.
Matthew, James, and I also went on one called the Paratrooper (the one with the big orange "parachutes"), which swooped up and down -- James and I both got off that one early! (Because we're Just That Cool.) But Mattie rode it over and over again. James loved the Tilt-a-Whirl and rode that one over and over again. :)
The boys also liked the games -- fortunately most were ones where kids win a prize no matter what (although James was pretty good at darts, considering that I don't think he's played before). They ended up with a couple of new stuffed animals, much to their delight! (Mike had told them they could use money from their coin jar to play the games -- so before we left, they came tromping down the stairs with their pockets stuffed with quarters! It was hilarious. We told them that wasn't going to work -- they wouldn't be able to keep their pants on! So they traded with Mike for paper money.)
After spending six hours at the fair, we didn't plan to watch fireworks afterwards. But then when we were putting the boys to bed, I heard a lot of booming outside, and I looked out the back window -- it turned out that we had a great view of the professional fireworks show from the country club down the street. So we let the boys get out of bed and watch -- very fun! (Matthew said that if we ever sell our house, we'll have to put the fireworks in the description so that people will want to buy it.)
