After two times of rescheduling, we finally had James's IEP meeting to find out what special education services he qualified for. And the answer is, not much -- which is a good thing. The only two goals they set for him were to use his FM system (which at this age is mainly up to the teacher) and to ask for clarification when he doesn't hear something. He's going to work with the teacher of the deaf twice a week as well, which I think will be a good way to make sure things are staying on track. His fine motor skills were in the normal range, and the results of the other tests were generally strong as well (except for one on pragmatic language).
My favorite thing about the meeting was that one of the people commented that James liked a challenge (when he had to do a task more than once he wanted to beat his previous score). Yay, James!
They were impressed that he knew 39 sight words. :) (Yeah, he knows a lot more than that, but they'll figure that out soon enough! I think his teacher already has.)
It was sort of funny -- they say that this is a team effort and that they welcome our input, but really they just kind of wanted to get the meeting wrapped up. It was okay, though, but just amusing.
