Just back from a visit to the hospital; both boys are doing well. They are still watching James closely, but tonight's X-ray looked good and his blood chemistry is also holding steady. The nurse practitioner described it as a dramatic improvement from 24 hours ago. We are certainly breathing a little easier.
We were pretty sure the boys were fraternal twins, but it was confirmed tonight -- they have different blood types. Matthew is O and James is B. It turns out that mother-baby blood type incompatibility can lead to higher bilirubin levels, so that might be why James has to be under the lights for a little longer (I'm O-positive).

I was just wondering tonight whether they were identical or fraternal. So, you know, good to know. Also, very glad to hear James is doing better.
