Win Some, Lose Some

James has been enjoying summer soccer.  In last week's game, he was goalie for a while.  He was guarding up front (which is what they had told him to do more of the previous time), and a kid kicked the ball right over his head into the goal.  James's comment was, "I think height was a factor!"  (Yep, I don't think there was any way he could have gotten that one!)

Last of Third

Thursday was the boys' last day of third grade!  It was only a half day, so they had the afternoon to play.  They made an epic hopscotch board on the sidewalk, complete with "traps" (you had to jump over the fire, couldn't stay on the "water" more than five seconds, etc.).

And then in the evening Mattie celebrated with a friend's birthday party.  It was a laser tag place with an arcade, and Matthew got a winning spin on the wheel of fortune, which gave him enough tickets to come home with a bunch of toys (Minecraft swords, foam rockets, etc.)  It was almost like it was his birthday!

Ninja Factory

We took a short road trip to Rochester to visit a different ninja gym, the Warrior Factory.  We were there for the hour and a half open play, and I'm not sure James stopped moving the entire time!

Both Matthew and James had an obstacle they wanted to conquer.  For Matthew, it was a a series of swinging ropes, poles, and rings to cross, and for James, it was jumping from a trampoline to a rope (and then climbing the rope and crossing on some rings, but it was really the grabbing the rope part that was difficult).  They both stuck with it and eventually succeeded!  They also both conquered the (smaller) warped wall.

It was a fun place -- James is already asking when we can go back!

Principal's Challenge

James completed the Principal's Challenge (completing a certain number of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems in a set period of time).   Yay, James!

Field Day

Beautiful weather for Field Day this year, and Matthew's class won the Tug for Fun!  (Mrs. Swain motivated them by saying that the losers would get five pages of homework!)
