Came to Play

James had a great evening on the soccer field. He scored two goals, and was on track to score some more, but the coach told him he needed to pass to his brother instead (which he cheerfully did).  :)  Every time it was the other group's turn to play, James couldn't wait to get back out on the field.

He did get sent off the field for sliding (we're pretty sure he didn't hear the coach when she told him not to do it, and I also think he may have just fallen down accidentally that time) and was very upset, but then he got to do a demonstration with the coaches at the end, so all was well.

[The third picture, by the way, was not actually him celebrating a goal, but rather, just doing a little dance on the field waiting for things to get started!]

Little Acrobats

The boys were doing "flying practice" on their tire swing today.

[Frost this weekend, 90 degrees today.  Neither one of those seems right!]

Okay Then

Matthew went into the house this evening, and I asked him what he was doing.  His reply was, "Something that doesn't involve you."  :)  I didn't expect a teenager quite yet!

More Fun in Charleston

(More photos from our visit earlier this month...)  A trip to the Smoky Oak, frozen yogurt, Uncle Isaac rescuing a bird, and reading with Grandma and Sue -- what more could you ask for?

A Few More from the Beach

Because there can never be too many beach pictures, right?  ;)

Old San Juan

It seems a bit unfair that I get to spend Mike's birthday in a beautiful tropical locale and he does not!  (The first five pictures are from the grounds of the hotel.  They even have a private beach -- I took a swim after walking around in the heat!  The water is very clear with no real waves in the lagoon part.)

The conference didn't start until this evening, so I spent some of the day touring Old San Juan.  It's very pretty!  Many of the buildings are painted bright pastel colors, and the old forts remind me of St. Augustine.

One of the pictures is a man banging a coconut on the curb. Someone asked him why he was doing that, and he said because they wouldn't let them have machetes there.  :)

The last picture is a traditional Puerto Rican dish called mafongo -- meat on top of a bed (or in this case, a cup) of plantains.  And of course, a pina colada to go with it!
